There are people who stay in for a low-key Friday night, and then there are people who spend the evening in Midtown for a My Little Pony party. Among them are Andrew W.K.! Andrew sat on a panel last month at Canterlot Gardens, a “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic” convention in Ohio, to discuss how alike he is to the My Little Pony, Pinkie Pie. The Wall Street Journal asks Andrew about ponies and much more in a recent interview. Enjoy an excerpt below and continue reading here.
“Even before I was invited to the convention, other people had mentioned I reminded them of this particular pony,” said Mr. W.K, in a phone interview. “But the deeper I got into it, the more natural it all seemed: having fun and being nice to everyone. It was actually very powerful and moving, and I’m still processing the goodness and joy.”
Mr. W.K. added that though Hasbro, which produces the toys, and the Hub, which airs the rebooted cartoon series “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic,” haven’t “formally embraced” the phenomenon of the Brony, they “haven’t been discouraging” either. “It’s purely coming from the passion of the experience,” he said.
