Interview: Andrew W.K. – Glasgow Classic Grand | Moshville | By Iain Purdle
Who would pass up the chance to talk to the King of Party himself, Andrew W.K.? Not me, that’s for sure.
Huge thanks to his management team back home and Blake, who was looking after things on the road (and doing backing vocals / mad-ass dancing on stage).
It would be easy to think, given his constant appearances on social media and self-motivational lectures, that Andrew would be very full of himself. Well, he’s not. Confident, yes. Full of good answers, absolutely. But he definitely doesn’t come across in the least big arrogant. As you’ll be able to hear on the recording, he’s happy to answer pretty much any questions thrown at him, taking anything in his stride.
Apologies for the sound quality in a few areas (especially 10-12 minutes). For some reason my recordings “warble” or stutter a bit at times and I’ve still not figured out why. Having listened through, though, it won’t stop you understanding anything. Background noise is the party in the next room, but again shouldn’t cause any problems!
We chatted about the tour itself, and how it compares to what he’s done in the past. I asked a few questions about how he views life, and how the job of being just a powerful front man has changed him – if indeed it has.
You can also find out a little bit about the book he’s writing, and the new album which us very much in the works!
Also, and possibly most importantly, Andrew answers a very important question – what is the single most important ingredient, above all others, to make a party truly special?
