POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE due to New York City restrictions on sound and light displays. The New Museum is actively working on rescheduling the event.

The King of Partying, Andrew W.K., will team up with Nuit Blanche New York (NBNY) this Saturday, May 4th, for a large-scale performance as part of their Change of State project. Commissioned by the New Museum as part of its Ideas City Festival, Change of State featurexs notable artists and architects casting building-scale projections onto the museum’s 174-foot façade. W.K. will kick off the entire event with an exclusive live performance using his keyboard to activate and control world renowned French artist Agathe de Bailliencourt’s multicolored light-based installation, inspired by the UFO musical dialogue scene from the 1977 sci-fi classic, Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Each key of W.K.’s synthesizer will be connected to a different group of vibrantly colored rhomboids projected onto the entire front of the internationally renowned contemporary art museum. W.K. will improvise using the shapes and sounds as he performs live, right on the street in front of the museum.

W.K. will begin this colorful performance at dusk (approximately 8pm) on May 4th, 2013 at the New Museum, located at 235 Bowery in Manhattan. The event is free and open to the public. In addition to Baillencourt, other participating artists include Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Nicolas Guagnini, Krzysztof Wodiczko, and many others.
